At the beginning of Uni my first large project featured this praying mantis character. Since then I've been remastering the design to improve on characterisation brief by brief.
While making all three puppets I've been having gender disparities whereby all three puppets, every feature and intension behind them, were used to visually calibrate how I picture gender without the attachments of human societal conventions that suffocate and mock the general understanding of gender.
A Grey Bug, a Red Creature, and a Large Ballerina Bug are fascinating canvas' to project these inner workings of being. Their entire physicality gave me something to relate to, seeing how I see myself in them and helping others understand me and others like me. These struggles are not universal and seeing them be mocked or labelled as a topic of debate depresses me to the core.
This is the cusp of human evolution and these things should be explored without the mockery of the minds obsessed with a binary from expired history.
